A Versatile Space for a Creative Showcase
Challenge
ArtsBuild, in collaboration with Artists at Work, and the Lyndhurst Foundation, sponsored a grant program for local Chattanooga, TN artists. In the span of a year, these local artists—Juno (AKA Tanqueray Harper), Monica Alicia Ellison, Mary Barnett, 2$on the Prince (AKA Kourtney Brown), and Robert Winslow—studied climate resiliency in the region.
They spent this year researching local organizations who champion either climate resiliency or the impact of climate on the citizens of our region. Each artist then created original works related to their research. On March 13th, ArtsBuild needed a space to showcase these artists and celebrate the artifacts and learnings of their year.
Solution
The Studio at Bridge Innovate® offers flexible, open space that can easily host groups from 10 to 120. For the ArtsBuild showcase, the partnership was a natural fit. Bridge customized the design of the event with Brianna Jones, the Program and Grants Coordinator of ArtsBuild. As the event was being designed, the Bridge team listened to the needs of the artists, the importance of setting the right context for each artist’s exhibit, and supporting their presentation.
Result
The evening was a beautiful success with each artist having a dedicated space for their art and a creative presentation.
Robert used a projector to cover an entire wall of a room where his photographs of the region could be seen, as well as two large screens where his documentary played.
Juno used the natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows to highlight the photographs she had printed on translucent fabric.
Mary Barnett used our bookcases to showcase her stenciled market bags.
2$on had an intimate setting where he presented his website and videos of his conversations with the men of Alton Park who have made an impact on him and the area.
Lastly, Monica had clear space to dance and demonstrate the movements she taught students at recreation centers.
The evening crackled with creative energy and delighted hearts. All the participants interacted with each artist, engaged with their work, and discussed climate resilience in the region, for a truly inspirational evening.
